About Me
Hello! My name is Jacob, an M.S. Biotechnology student at UTSA with a focus in bioinformatics. My research experience centers on computational genomics and developing reproducible pipelines, including GenomeProfiler, a Python tool for prokaryotic genomic feature detection. My current research interests involve designing a series of machine learning models to identify mobile genetic elements in prokaryotic nucleotide sequences independent of a database to develop a novel detection tool. I am pursuing a career as a Bioinformatics Engineer. Outside of research, I enjoy listening to and collecting records and cds, creating and contributing to open-source bioinformatics projects, playing bass, golf, SCUBA, repairing vintage stereo equipment, and amateur radio (my callsign is N5CXI)!
